Before you choose a licence
A Windows 10 key should match the edition you intend to run. Home, Pro and specialist editions are not interchangeable, and the N designation also matters when matching an existing installation. Review your system information before buying a replacement key. If an older application is the reason for keeping Windows 10, check that application's requirements as well as those of the operating system. Purchasing an activation key alone does not establish that your complete setup remains supported.
Standard support for Windows 10 Home and Pro ended on 14 October 2025. Extended Security Updates and specialist LTSC lifecycles have separate conditions; do not assume they are included with a product key. Review Microsoft's current lifecycle information before deciding to retain the system. OEM and Retail terms also affect device association and transfer rights. Follow the instructions for the exact licence channel, keep a backup before reinstalling, and contact support if the activation error suggests an edition mismatch.
